Birthday of Mary Anderson

Mary Anderson was born on this day in 1872. She was a labor leader and women’s rights advocate who advocated for women in the workplace. She was the first director of the Women’s Bureau of the U.S. Department of Labor and served for five presidents over a 24-year period. Anderson saw the number of women workers more than double thanks to her efforts. She was considered one of the most influential women in the federal government. She died in 1964.
